Today we have the excellent new ZXMods SpiderMax Stainless Steel Fan Grills on the OCA review bench. I was talking with the owner of ZXMods when I saw he put up these new grills. I couldn't believe it. They were the most beautiful grills I had ever set my eyes on. I HAD to get some of these to review I said, and ZXMods came through with the goods.

Introduction: Today we have the excellent new ZXMods SpiderMax Stainless Steel Fan Grills on the OCA review bench. I was talking with the owner of ZXMods when I saw he put up these new grills. I couldn't believe it. They were the most beautiful grills I had ever set my eyes on. I HAD to get some of these to review I said, and ZXMods came through with the goods.

Hell, there's even a great story behind these little works of art. Check it out.

"Buried legend tells of a conjured man named "SpiderMax" rumored to have been created from the form of a lifeless tarantula. SpiderMax was supposedly conjured from the tremendous sorrow of a grieving widow whose favorite pet, a Tarantula, was killed by a woodsman while repairing her cottage. Grief stricken from the loss, the old hag gathered her tarantula into a blood red colored velvet pouch until the right time for the conjur to take place. Now, the time has come to remember this event in these spectacular creations proudly called, "SpiderMax"

Kind of neat to not only have a great product, but a sort of "background history" behind it eh?

Overview: You can get these beauties in 60mm, 80mm, 92mm and 120mm sizes. These great choices in size will let you use the grills on just about anything. They'd look great on CPU Fans, Blowholes or whatever else you might want to use them for.

The grills also come in 2 forms of finished product. Premium finish and Plain finish. "The plain finish comes with regular mounting holes and a machine grained 180 grit vertical finish. The "Premium" finish option has a hand finished 220 grit super fine satin finish on the presentation side."

Of course the premium grills are a couple dollars more. In my eyes, they are worth it. I truly don't believe pictures can really do this product true justice, but I'm gonna show you some clickable thumbnails that let you pull these up in a large window so you can see the full detail. Lets take a look.

OK, from left to right above. Shot 1 is the SpiderMax grill with a pack of the matching screws that can also be purchased at ZXMods. They go especially nice on the grill with counter sunk holes, which is the version we have here today. These look especially nice if you like having a relatively flat surface. Unlike most screws that have a rounded top head and stand slightly above the grill. These ones actually sink into the counter sunk holes for a more professional appearance. Check the picture on the right above to see what I'm talking about.

These things look really sharp on their own, and even better once you get them mounted on your case side to use for a blowhole. For comparison purposes, I have installed the SpiderMax grill next to a plain jane chrome grill cover so you can see exactly how sweet these are.

Above also is a good representation of how the counter sunk holes and special screw set looks compared to the typical grill mounting. Lets face it, the good ol' original fan grills have seen their day. Now, in order to set your case out from the pack, you'll need something a bit different, and these new SpiderMax grills from ZXMods are just the ticket. Let's take a quick look at the highs and lows of the grills and round up the review with a quick conclusion.

    Conclusion:

    Highs:

    • Great construction quality

    • Available in various sizes and options

    • Absolutely beautiful to look at

    • Will look great for both CPU coolers and Blowholes

    • Designed and manufactured by ZXMods only. A one of a kind product not available ANYWHERE else

    • Matching appliqué available

    Lows:

    • Slightly on the pricey side

    • Possibly a bit radical for some of the more "traditional" cases

Well, that about sums it up. Yes, these grills are going to set you back a few $$, but in the end, I believe they are worth every penny. In fact, ZXMods has me hooked and I'm thinking about decking out my entire rig with SpiderMax grills inside and out. Also, don't forget about the ZXMods SpiderMax Appliqué to give your case that "complete" SpiderMax look.

Thanks for stopping by and checking out the review. Feel free to head into the forums to lay a few words of praise or flame upon us, or to the Front Page and check out the other GooSH!™ here @OCA..
