Silverstone Temjin TJ05 Case - Installing Motherboard and Toolless Optical Drive

Installing Motherboard and Toolless Optical Drive

It’s time for the fun stuff. I’m all ready to start playing with the case and installing our test equipment.

Silverstone provides a nice illustrated manual in case you have trouble with any of the basic installation. This is definitely nice to have for a case with so many unique ideas. It seems to help with most of the parts.

Like I mentioned earlier, there is no removable motherboard tray. That was kind of a shock to me with a case that has so many features. However, the point of the removable trays is to help you install motherboards in small spaces you can’t get your hands into. As you can see on the picture above, there is TONS of space in this case.

This case doesn’t really need the removable tray. It’s so wide open that most screws were easy to install, with the exception of one or two down in the corner by the PCI slots that I had trouble with. The case actually feels a bit sturdier than ones that use trays, and there’s no screws needed to hold the tray in.

Okay. It’s definitely time to install a few drives using this toolless system.

This is a picture of the side of one of the large optical bay drives. You need to remove those two screws (and two on the other side) to remove the empty bay cover. So installing and removing the covers requires a screwdriver, but there’s some space in the tool kit for you to store a handy small one.

Here’s a picture of a DVD drive with the rails being held on. The rails just have pins that stick into the drive’s screw holes, so if I set it down they would fall out.

The DVD burner is slid into the top drive bay, and you can see how the rails fit right into their positions. You can see little notches on the rails. When I push the drive into the bay all the way, those notches snap it into place. The drive is flush with the drive covers below and feels very secure. Just squeeze the rails and pull the drive out to remove.
