SilverStone TJ06 Computer Case Review - Cooling Performance
(Page 5 of 6 )
Once I was able to get anything installed I compared the temperatures of the CPU and motherboard (northbridge) under idle and load conditions in the old case and the SilverStone TJ06 with and without the wind tunnel. For idle the system was allowed to sit for 30+ minutes or until the temperatures stabilized with no running processes. For load conditions two instances of Folding@home were running and 3DMark2001 was running in a loop to heat the video card and raise case temperatures.
Test System
- ASUS P4R800-V
- Intel PentiumIV 2.6GHz @ 2.75GHz
- Intel Retail CPU Heatsink
- 1GB Kinston HyperX PC4000
- ATi RADEON 9700 Pro w/Zalman VGA cooler

Under idle conditions the differences is amazing and very easy to see. The motherboard temperatures dropped 12 degrees when installed in the TJ06, and the CPU temperatures dropped 9 degrees to just a degree or two over ambient. It is surprising to see the CPU running so cool with only the Intel retail heatsink installed.

Under load the TJ06 really shines with CPU temperatures 12 to 13 degrees below the "Old Case" and motherboard temperatures down 14 (with wind tunnel installed) to 19 degrees (without wind tunnel installed). I was also glad that the Zalman VGA cooler encouraged me to try the case without the wind tunnel. The CPU temperature is 1 degree less with the wind tunnel but I am more than willing to trade that for the 5 degree drop of the motherboard and most likely the video card.
