Project Sinister: Something Sinister This Way Comes - A Nice Gaping Hole
(Page 5 of 8 )
With the drive cage out of the way, it was time to turn to the front of the chassis and the annoying dual fan mounts. I wanted my fans to mount one on top of the other vertically, not horizontally. To do be able to do this, I would have to build a new bracket to mount the fans on and cut out the old one from the chassis.

Once the lines were marked and even to my satisfaction on both sides, I set about cutting the chassis to accommodate my new fans. Do as the carpenter’s do: measure twice, cut once. As you can see in the upper corner of the picture I misjudged the placement of the lines and measured again. It’s much easier to cut more metal away than it is to put any back.

Once the chassis had been cut and cleaned up with my files I had a nicely sized gaping hole. My fans would be stacked vertically and would need a panel made to hold the fans in place and allow air through.
