Project Sinister: Something Sinister This Way Comes - Gutting the Drive Cage
(Page 4 of 8 )
Looking at the rest of the chassis, I decided that if I were going to mount two fans on the front, I wanted them to able to easily provide my case with significant cooling. Looking at the 3.5 inch bays, I could easily, and successfully, have mounted the hard drives in the stock cage running down from the optical bays.

Naturally, however, I’m against doing anything the easy way. I wanted my fans to have complete clearance to the motherboard and decided that the 3.5 inch cage would have to go. First thing was to remove the pop rivets holding the drive cage to the bottom of the case and to the optical drive cage. With my cordless drill, I easily drilled through the top of the rivet and through to the other side. This is the easiest way to remove pop rivets.

With the 3.5 inch drive cage removed, the inside was looking a lot cleaner. I did this not just for airflow reasons but I also really wanted the interior of the case to be clean and spacious. Any hard drives would be installed with either an optical drive hard drive cooler bay or with an optical drive tray. Either way, I wanted it to be nice and clean and spacious where the 3.5 inch drive cage was.
