Project Sinister: Something Sinister This Way Comes - A Fresh Case for the Grinder

The ATX-488 is a decent budget mid-tower case for most purposes. In a slightly later version of this particular case, it comes with a pre-drilled fan hole located roughly where the processor on most ATX motherboards would be located. Wonderful idea, but thankfully not present on this model. I wanted the sides to be intact and smooth for my desired result.

One thing about this case that I really liked, and that I wanted to keep in the final form of the mod, were the faux-chrome inserts on the bezel. For my plans the chrome pieces would contrast nicely with paint finish I had planned and would look really striking when finished.

My plans for Sinister involved doing a reasonable amount of modding that wouldn’t detract from my desired paint finish. I didn’t want to lose the overall square shape for this mod, and so decided against building any sort of large or raised pieces off the tower. I like the smooth lines and sharp angles present on the case and didn’t want to lose them just for the sake of changing them. I wanted subtle, not garish.
