Project Sinister: Out Comes the Evil - Plastic Surgery for the Case Mod

I picked up a product from a good friend of mine who owns a body shop and collision centre that he used for bumper repair. It was a two part mix called Plastic Surgery that hardened in less than five minutes and could be sculpted and used to fill gaps in plastic areas.

The first thing I wanted to try it on was the old front USB location on the side of the bezel. I had already fashioned a new bracket for the USB directly below the fans so this square opening in the side was a waste of space and needed to be filled. After a quick chat with my body shop friend, I set to damming up the inside of the opening with some thick card. I used some masking tape to hold the card in place when I applied the compound.

This particular version of the Plastic Surgery compound was a “rigid” version that would leave a very strong and durable finish wherever it was applied but was also a rather viscous until it dried. With the dam in place I set to mixing up the compound and applying it with some plastic cutlery.
