Project Sinister: Out Comes the Evil - Working on the Side Panel

In order to make the steel flush with the side panel, I would have to cut the indented handle on the side panel out. Additionally I would need to remove the louvered openings I had so carefully trimmed from the panel. The presence of the perforated steel behind the narrow openings in the louvered area would have been cosmetically confusing. I decided to cut out the whole louvered area with my dremel and remove the handle. With my cordless drill set to making the holes, I needed to put my bolts through. Once these holes were made I set to mounting the modified side panel to the hinges and seeing how everything looked.

While the panel opened and closed well, the outside of the case was not exactly what my original plans called for. With the handle removed and louvered area also cut out, I did not like the new look of the side panel at all. I decided that I needed to take a step back from it and approach it after allowing my mind time to decide what would look the best for this mod. With any mod, plans can and will change as you’re doing the work and not even the best modders will see all of their best laid plans fall into place without resistance or change. I didn’t like the side panel and, gritting my teeth, I had to think about how I was going to deal with this new hurdle. That side panel was proving to be my undoing.
