Now that you know what kind of skin you want, you may want to consider an adornment that will give your shiny new laptop a bit more protection than just a skin. Now we can talk about cases. Do not worry if you have fallen in love with one of the skins that you have found on this list. You could always put it over a hard-skinned case.

Before we go over the list of potential cases, we need to talk about the types of cases that you may encounter. All cases will fit neatly into one or two categories. A case is either a hard case or a soft case. The way that I am defining the difference is simple. If you knock on a case and you hear a rapping sound, then it is a hard case. If you knock on the case and you do not get a clear sound, then you have a soft skin case.

To be honest, soft skin cases are sometimes not called a case at all. They are often called a laptop sleeve, and you will see them sold as such. The main difference between a sleeve and a skin, except for the noises that they make when you hit them, is the type of protection that you get when you put one on your laptop and whether or not you can use them while you use your laptop.

A soft case will offer you with a protection from scratches or spills, but you can't use it while your laptop is open. It must be closed while the cover is on. A hard case can protect you from scratches, and to a certain extent from dropping. Not that you should be testing this theory by dropping it over and over again, but in the case of a true accident, it should offer you some protection.
